# Statuses

> How to read the status of a document, and how the status changes.

Each document has one status in each environment. The status tells you the condition of the document and what to do.

## How the status changes

Usually, a document goes through these groups:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Waiting">
    Transitive received the document. It prepares the stamp, or it waits for a person or a system.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Stamped">The document has a valid CFDI.</Step>

  <Step title="Cancelling">
    A person or a related document requested a cancellation. The CFDI stays valid during this step.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Cancelled">The SAT cancelled the CFDI.</Step>
</Steps>

Other groups show that a related document is missing, that the stamp failed, or that the document does not get a CFDI.

## A valid CFDI comes first

If a version has a valid CFDI, the status is in the **Stamped** group or the **Cancelling** group. Other facts do not change this result. For example, new data from CargoWise does not change a **Stamped** status.

## The status does not use time

The status changes only when a fact changes. The age of a document does not change its status. For example, Transitive does not use the time to find the result of a cancellation.

## Find a status code

[Status codes](/reference/statuses/overview) gives each group and each code with the action to do.
