# Failures

> What a failure code is, and what occurs after you correct the cause.

When Transitive cannot complete a step, it records a failure code. The code tells you what occurred and how to correct it. The code does not change. Thus, you can find it in the reference.

A failure can stop the stamp, or it can show on the timeline:

* A failure that stops the stamp changes the status to **Failed**. Refer to [Failed statuses](/reference/statuses/failed).
* A failure of a cancellation or of a CargoWise delivery shows on the timeline. Refer to [Timeline failures](/reference/timeline/overview).

## After you correct the cause

* If you correct the data in CargoWise, send the document again. Transitive examines it again and stamps it automatically.
* If you correct the settings, the document continues automatically when it waits. Refer to [Credits and company setup](/guides/stamp-credits-and-company-setup).
* You can also stamp the document by hand. Refer to [Stamp a document](/guides/stamp-a-document).
